Apparently it's going to take a few more blog posts for me to say everything I have to say about the importance of the practice of observation.
So I've been thinking about painting....when I paint something, I am looking at it hard, with great attention. I usually come away from the painting able to see the world better, because of that concentration.

Then I as I do my daily tasks, talk to a friend, or go for a walk, that ability to observe better comes to my aid as I practice seeing.
Then I bring back what I have learned from the world to my painting. It's a cycle, but a good one.
PS. All of this talk about the practice of seeing sounds all very well and good, but I need to add the disclaimer that it doesn't prevent me from overlooking the obvious or walking into poles. For that, one needs to be looking in the right direction... a skill I have yet to master.
