September Paper Bag Faces---Sunflower's Shadow

9/12/2014

Picture
On Wednesday I was weary to the bone, so I went to bed at the same time as  the kids instead of staying up to paint.
Somewhere along the line, I am going to have to catch up!  This is my 11th face in September, and the goal is  to do 29.

Here is a woman wearing a sunflower that is hiding her eyes in the shadows.  The shadow wasn't there in my reference photo, and neither was the sunflower.  The idea gradually developed on the paper and in my mind.... I thought, even the bright and beautiful things in our lives will sometimes cast shadows.

Sometimes I start out with a clear concept for a picture, especially when I am doing more of a portrait, like the cookie picture.  But more often the concept grows and develops along with the picture.  It is a fun way to work, like exploring new paths every time I take up the paintbrush.
